The Positive and Negative of Our Tea Bags vs Loose Leaf

There has been much debate over what type of tea is overall better in terms of taste: Loose leaf or tea bags. Whilst it is true that tea bags win hands down for convenience, you cannot look past loose-leaf tea for its superiority in flavour. The reason behind why loose-leaf tea always wins this category is because the contents of the tea are not grounded into smaller particles, resulting in whole leaves which when steeped, allow for a well-balanced flavour that is full of depth. It is also because loose-leaf tea is not confined to a small area of a tea bag, denying the tea room to expand to release its full flavour.

Yet, when it comes to our teas at Harumade Tea, we believe in capturing the depth of loose-leaf tea, but also love the convenience of tea bags. So let us show you the pros and cons of our tea bags compared to loose-leaf tea and let you see how there are not so many differences between the two.

Positives of Harumade Tea Bags

We only use loose-leaf tea that is whole and not grounded which means you will not see any dust or crushed leaves in our bags. Our tea is made with whole ingredients (tea leaves, fruits, herbs, flowers) to ensure that you will be brewing a cup that is full of flavour, well-rounded, and never stale or bitter.

Our bags are slightly bigger than regular tea bags which allow the tea to flow more freely when brewed. This enables the tea to fully develop its aromatic range and not inhibit on flavour.

We use a pyramid shape bag that enables for maximum flavour out of our tea. It has space to expand and move in circular motion around the bag, giving similar results to loose-leaf tea that is brewed in a pot.

We only use natural material for our tea bags making them biodegradable and compostable, which means our bags are not hurting the environment, nor exposing anyone to ingesting particles of microplastics. Our tea bags are durable and porous, allowing for a more concentrated brew.

Our tea bags are convenient for on the go or any occasion that requires a cup of tea. We have compiled the right amount of tea in each bag to ensure you are getting the best out of your tea.

Each bag contains a balanced mix of ingredients so you do not have to worry about measuring out and balancing flavours. We have done all the work for you so all you need to do is fill it up with water and relax.

Our tea is not processed when put into tea bags which means our teas natural compounds are intact and ready to deliver their health benefits to you. Our teas contain no artificial preservatives, flavourings, or colours.

Our teas are economical as they contain high quality ingredients that can be steeped a few times, which means you are getting more than one use from your tea bag.

We use recyclable packaging to store our tea bags, that ensures our boxes are completely sustainable and contain no harmful plastics.

Negatives of Harumade Tea Bags

Tea is constricted to the tea bag even though we use a larger tea bag for our tea to move freely around, some may argue that the flavour is still better from loose leaf in a pot.

You are limited to the blend inside the bag which can be frustrating for some people who like to customise their own blends. Even though we do our best to offer a range of flavours and we balance the tea to our best abilities, we understand that our flavour profile may not meet your own desired flavour and strength.

Positives of Loose-Leaf Tea

Loose-leaf tea is made with quality tea leaves which means you get more flavour and a stronger aroma from your leaf.

Tea is not constricted to tea bags and is given the space to expand and move around which helps to elevate its flavour profile to create a well-balanced tea.

Leaves are loose which means better for the environment as they are completely natural and compostable. Loose-leaf tea uses less resources in production which helps with the Earths carbon footprint.

Lots of varieties to choose and experiment with for those of you who enjoy brewing your own tea. You are not restricted to what is in the tea bag, and can be free to make a tea suited to your own personal preferences.

More health benefits as loose-leaf teas are usually less processed, they do not contain any synthetic ingredients or preservatives that can damage our health. They retain their natural health benefits which can help us combat a variety of health issues.

Can be used multiple times as loose-leaf tea is made with quality tea leaves, they contain a strong full-bodied flavour which makes them perfect for steeping again and again.

Negatives of Loose-Leaf Tea

Lack of convenience is one of the biggest negatives of loose-leaf tea as it requires more equipment to brew. Although, once you have everything you need, it is not that troublesome, but not the most convenient for on the go.

The packaging of loose-leaf tea can come in plastic to hold the loose leaves inside. This is not always the case, however, most of the loose-leaf tea I have purchased online has been packaged in plastic which defeats the purpose.

Loose leaf is normally more expensive nevertheless, the amount of uses you can get from your loose-leaf tea could be more economical in the long term.

Final Thoughts…

Overall, you can see there are very few differences between our tea bags and loose-leaf tea. Whilst it is true that some commercialised tea bags are mass produced and contain very low-quality tea, it is not the case with us at Harumade Tea. We believe in quality ingredients which is why we have carefully sourced our loose leaves, flowers, herbs, and fruits, by keeping them whole. We believe that tea bags do not have to always be seen as inferior to loose leaf! And that, they too, can be just as flavourful and eco-friendly.
